First Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression
On the first day, they introduced us to the organization and the work they do so that we could get accustomed to the work environment.
They explained the functioning of the organization and they allotted me to the Sponsorship Project. The senior staffs were very patient and comfortable communicating. I had to pay an amount of Rs. 1000 as a donation to the organization for the internship which indirectly is used for the development of underprivileged children.
Main Tasks
This Non-profit Organisation works for the underprivileged children and supports them financially. This organization is a blessing to society, as it also helps the students in their education programs. I was allotted under the Sponsorship Programme, where I made reports of children of Sunderbans Island and helped the staff with some documentation. Though it was my first internship, I learned valuable lessons from my assigned activities as well as from the staff. The work included the making of academic reports of the students of Sunderbans Island and helping the team with documentation and computation. Initially, my internship was in offline mode but then due to the rising amount of Covid cases it was shifted to online mode. Though the mode was changed the discipline of work was the same, and all the reports that were allotted to me were successfully finished right on time.
Good Things
It’s ideal for the 1st year law students, as NGO internships play an important role in developing their character. The internship gave me valuable experience, learned how to manage my time and how organize work to maximize efficiency.
Bad Things
It can be inconvenient if the concerned intern is not fluent in the local language (Bengali). The donation amount of Rs. 1000 can be a lot for an internship in NGOs.
Stipend (If Any)
No stipend
Accommodation, Commuting to Office
No accommodation provided, any local bus to Hindustan Park from where there’s a walk of 350 m (approx. 5 min)
Other Points and Perks
In the three weeks with The Hope Kolkata Foundation, I feel I was able to learn as much as I could. However, I would further like to work more with non-profit organizations. The scope of activities that are involved with these organizations, interests me a lot. Nevertheless, this internship experience was very important and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to get practical experiences.
