First Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression
On the first day, they introduced us to the organisation and the work they do so that we could get accustomed to the work environment.
They explained the functioning of the organization which included their eight centres, but the BOSCO YUVODAYA being their main head office. They had a requirement of Rs. 350 which is their placement charge, along with id proof and two photos of the respective intern.
Main Tasks
BOSCO as an organization rescues children at risk, unaccompanied children living on the streets or children who do labour. They have several centres and my work was distributed evenly throughout all the centres. I had the opportunity to go out with the rescue teams, where I learnt and assisted them in rescuing several under-age children who were brought illicitly for labour from interior villages of various states but majorly, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. I also had the opportunity of filling out the documents of the rescued children and make follow-up calls on the children who were successfully sent back home. BOSCO Nilaya is one of their organizations which provides elementary knowledge. I went to several communities, where I taught the children and indeed that was a lifetime experience. I was also part of a survey for 3-4 days in the Railway and Bus Stations, where we rescued several under-age children doing labour and street children at risk. Train observation was one of the main works, followed by investigating their age, and then reporting the children at the Police Station after counselling to make sure all the protocols were followed. I spent quite some time with SJPU (Special Juvenile Police Unit) as well, under which I had the opportunity to visit police stations and discuss issues related to juveniles with the station officer. Overall, the whole experience was very exhilarating and taught important lessons which will be useful in the later facets of my life.
Good Things
It’s ideal for the 1st year law students, as NGO internships play an important role in developing their character. The internship gave me a lot of perspectives and the work schedule was balanced efficiently.
Bad Things
In certain situations, language was a barrier as the rescued children from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka preferred their local language. But, people were always there to guide and support me in case of any difficulties.
Stipend (If Any)
No stipend
Accommodation, Commuting to Office
According to the availability, the organization also provided the female interns with accommodation in BOSCO VATSALYA BHAVAN, the hostel for rescued girl children. The fee for the same was Rs. 4500, which included stay and food thrice a day.
Other Points and Perks
It was a good experience with a varied scope of learning. Working here allows you to learn how an NGO operates while also gaining legal experience. One of the major add-ons of the internship was, one can spend a considerable amount of time with the rescued children residing in the organization. The internship certificate will be provided after the completion of the internship.
