About Student Committee for Constitutional Law and Human Rights

The Student Committee for Constitutional Law and Human Rights (SCLHR) is a student-led initiative at the UPES School of Law, Dehradun, dedicated to cultivating constitutional curiosity and advancing discourse on human rights. Conceived as a space beyond the classroom, SCLHR encourages students to question, reflect and critically engage with contemporary legal and socio-political developments.

About the Call for submissions

February is conventionally associated with the celebration of love. However, love is not merely a private emotion. It is deeply intertwined with politics, culture and law. The law recognises certain forms of love (marriage and family) and polices or remains silent on others (inter-faith/caste, queer relationships, live-in relationships, other forms of union).

As a student collective committed to constitutional values and human rights, SCLHR proposes to dedicate the month of February and March to explore the intersections of love and law through creative expression. This initiative seeks to broaden legal discourse beyond doctrinal analysis and encourage reflective, interdisciplinary engagement.

Themes

(Submissions may engage with, but are not limited to the following themes):

  • Love as a Legal Category (Marriage, Intimacy, Family, Kinship, Consent, Reproductive Autonomy)
  • Forbidden, Policed and Criminalised Love (Queer Love, Live-In, Honour, Surveillance, State Control)
  • Love as Resistance (Repression, Occupation, Incarceration)
  • Love in Times of Crisis (War, Displacement, Climate Grief, Environmental Justice)
