About the 2-Day National-level Seminar
Since the end of the Cold War and the dismantling of bloc politics, the international order has witnessed complex transformations. The unipolar dominance of the United States and its allies is gradually giving way to multipolar arrangements in trade, diplomacy, and security. While globalization advanced through free trade agreements, cooperative maritime laws, and shared commitments against terrorism, recent geopolitical crises—such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the ongoing war in Gaza—have destabilized trust in international institutions such as the UN, ICJ, and ICC.
Parallelly, emerging economies like India, Brazil, and South Africa have consolidated ties with Russia and China under the BRICS framework, reflecting a trend away from Western-dominated unipolarity towards a multipolar global order. India’s rise as the fourth largest economy and a major actor in South-South cooperation exemplifies this transformation. Yet, South Asia faces challenges with internal unrest being witnessed in nations such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh, which has further weakened the relevance of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.
The two-day National-level Seminar, which will be conducted in an offline mode, is supposed to address pressing global developments and concerns, focusing on the intersections of politics, economics, and diplomacy. It seeks to provide a critical space for scholars, students, and policymakers to deliberate on the global shifts that define the contemporary epoch—an epoch that marks not an “end of history” but the beginning of a new order. Further, it will try to analyse and examine the reasons of the declining role of international institutions in guiding international legal and political discourses.
The main objectives of the two-day National-level Seminar are
- To critically assess the transformation of the global order from unipolarity to multipolarity.
- To examine the epistemology of the emerging world order and the intermesh of issues that intersect international law and global politics.
- To analyze the role of emerging economies, especially India, in shaping international political economy.
- To examine the failures and the possible roadmap of international institutions amidst new forms of socio-legal and socioeconomic crises.
- To explore South Asia’s regional instability and its implications for India’s foreign policy.
- To engage young scholars and researchers in dialogues and discussions pertaining to global transformations.
