About the Opportunity
The National Legal Hackathon is a national-level academic and innovation-driven initiative hosted by the Consumer Protection Cell in collaboration with Faculty of Law, Manipal University Jaipur, under the aegis of TechIdeate, the University’s annual technical fest. The hackathon is conceived as an intensive, collaborative platform that
brings together students from law, technology, management, and allied disciplines to address pressing challenges in the domain of consumer protection.
The event is designed to encourage participants to engage deeply with contemporary consumer law issues under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, including e-commerce disputes, misleading advertisements, product liability, grievance redressal mechanisms, financial consumer protection, and access to justice for vulnerable groups. Through structured problem-solving and guided mentorship, participants are expected to develop practical, research-backed, and implementable solutions.
Unlike conventional competitions, the National Legal Hackathon emphasizes legal reasoning, analytical rigor, and real-world applicability. Teams will work on identified consumer protection challenges to produce outputs such as legal frameworks, policy recommendations, draft guidelines, standard operating procedures, awareness tools, or technology-enabled solutions. The hackathon aims to bridge the gap between legal theory and practice by encouraging innovation rooted in statutory interpretation, case law analysis, and policy evaluation.
By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement with experts from academia and practice, the hackathon seeks to enhance legal research skills, promote consumer awareness, and contribute meaningfully to the evolving consumer protection ecosystem in India. The event also serves as a platform for mentoring, networking, and professional development for aspiring legal and policy professionals.
