Application Procedure

One can apply on the online portal. Visit https://www.ey.com/en_in/careers. You can also send CV along with the covering letter to [email protected].  Please note that ideally you should send your CV well in advance (at least 5 to 6 months) prior to proposed period of internship.

If your application is accepted, someone from the HR team will contact you to inquire about a few details. Some few questions might be asked to know the applicant better.

However, keep in mind that it is not a walk in the park, and if you are serious about getting in, you must complete your assignments correctly. To begin, talk to your seniors or other professionals on LinkedIn, ideally those who are currently employed or have previously been there, to learn how to structure your application, how many interns the firm accepts, what timeframe you should apply for, and how you should follow up with HR. This has worked for me, and getting these things in order will very certainly boost your chances of being considered for a position.

First Day Formalities

Unlike a physical internship, there were very few first-day formalities aside from a brief HR orientation session during which we were informed about the firm’s practise areas, norms for online internships, confidentiality policies, team hierarchy, and how to request a leave, and other things. Following that, I sent an introductory email to the team to inform them of my arrival and availability for work.

Work hours and weekends

Since it was an online internship, the work hours were not overtight. However, you are supposed to finish the assigned task within the stipulated time and send a mail to your supervisor to assign a task for the day. On usual weekdays. I was engaged with work around 5-6 hours and this was stretched a bit on the busy days. (Most likely there were one or two such days in a week).

no task assigned on weekends. Interns were neither mandated nor expected to take up work on weekends. However, if any urgent task comes up, you will have to complete the task.

Main tasks

The tasks assigned to me were:

  • finding relevant case laws on Personal Guarantors under IBC, prepare case analysis on different landmark SC judgements.
  • list out amendments being introduced under IBC,2016 and regulations thereunder during 2020 and 2021.
  • preparing a case law/commentary on whether the holding company will also be debarred to submit resolution plan in other matters if the subsidiary is undergoing or has undergone CIRP proceedings.
  • Analysing different NCLT judgements and prepare analysis for the same
  • Attend virtual meetings with the supervisors.

Work Culture- People

To say the least, everyone I interacted with was incredibly kind and approachable. Despite the fact that they were always overburdened with work, each associate made it a point to explain the importance and significance of each assignment before moving on to the next task. However, this is a two-way street, and in order to have this privilege, you must also demonstrate that you are genuinely engaged in the work by asking pertinent questions, submitting work on time, and taking responsibility.

Apart from this, I believe a 3 week period is very insufficient to make your mark, in the hindsight, if you are looking at the internship from a recruitment perspective, a relatively longer term (preferably more than 2 months) will definitely help you to understand the work culture, get a sense of the type of work that team does, and even put team members in a better position to recognise and evaluate your work.

Despite the fact that it was a virtual experience, the work environment was incredibly pleasant. All of the team members stayed in touch throughout and assisted me in resolving my concerns.

My experience at EY was magnificent. Thanks to the team for giving me such opportunity.

Good Luck!
