About the Webinar
The webinar titled “Demystifying Cybercrime Laws in India” is being organized to create awareness about the rapidly evolving legal framework governing cyber offences in India. With increasing reliance on digital platforms, the session seeks to address the growing challenges posed by cybercrime and the corresponding legal responses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
The webinar will provide participants with a clear understanding of common cyber offences, legal safeguards, and statutory remedies available to individuals and institutions. Emphasis will be placed on the practical application of cyber laws through real-life case illustrations, recent legal developments, and procedural aspects relating to reporting and redressal mechanisms.
By bringing together academic insight and practical perspectives, the session aims to enhance digital legal literacy and promote responsible, ethical, and lawful engagement in the digital space. The webinar is intended to benefit students, academicians, researchers, and professionals seeking to strengthen their understanding of cyber law and digital governance.
Objective of the Session
- To create awareness about the legal framework governing cybercrimes in India, with specific reference to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.

About the Speaker
Ms. Ankita Jakhmola is an Assistant Professor at the School of Law, Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun, and a Gold Medalist in LL.M. (Criminal and Securities Law) from the Institute of Law, Nirma University. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, with research focused on women prisoners and prison administration in Uttarakhand.
Her areas of expertise include Criminal Law, Code of Criminal Procedure, Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act, and Code of Civil Procedure. She has assisted Senior Advocates before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and various High Courts, and has over three years of academic teaching and research experience.
Ms. Jakhmola is the Founder of Legally Bharat, a legal awareness initiative, and a recipient of the Women Mentor of the Year award. She has delivered keynote addresses, conducted legal awareness workshops, served as a judge in moot court competitions, and has several publications in SCOPUS, ABDC, and UGC CARE-indexed journals, along with multiple published patents.
