The Centre for Constitutional Law and Human Rights (CCLHR) functions under the School of Law and is dedicated to fostering research, dialogue and academic engagement in the fields of constitutional law, human rights, governance, public policy and democratic institutions. The Centre seeks to create a platform for critical engagement with constitutional values and contemporary legal challenges through academic and policy-oriented initiatives.

About the Conference

The Indian Constitution stands as an aspirational charter of social transformation, envisioning not only political democracy but also social and economic justice as foundational commitments. In the twenty-first century, these constitutional ideals closely align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which integrate economic growth with social inclusion and environmental sustainability.

Through Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy and Fundamental Duties, the Constitution establishes a normative framework for sustainable development. Contemporary challenges including climate change, environmental degradation, public health crises, migration, digital inequality and governance deficits underscore the continuing relevance of constitutional values in shaping India’s developmental trajectory.

Recognising the significance of these issues, the Centre for Constitutional Law and Human Rights, School of Law, Bennett University is organising the International Conference on “Constitutionalism and Sustainable Development Goals: Ensuring Governance & Rule of Law in India’s Transformative Journey”.

The conference aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and provide a platform for academicians, researchers, legal practitioners, policymakers and students to critically examine the interface between constitutionalism and sustainable development while exploring innovative approaches towards governance, accountability and social justice.
