This Internship generally comes twice a year Summer and Winter internships but I recommend checking the official website frequently so that you can keep yourself updated with any future opportunities.
Work profile/Main tasks
The major tasks I did included but were not limited to:
- Attending Court Proceedings at Criminal, Civil and Family Courts.
- Visiting various places as per the Schedule provided which includes various Govt. Departments at the National and State Level, Commissions, DLSA office, Criminal court, Family Court, Mediation Centre, etc.
- Conducted Door-to-door Campaigns to make people aware of Free Legal Aid and How they can avail of it in case they need any Legal assistance.
- Conducted Research on various Statutes and Judgements related to Legal Aid.
- Taking regular notes of daily work.
Work environment
All the people I have met were very Kind, Supportive and helpful throughout the Internship Duration.
We were provided with the Schedule of the Internship, prior to the commencement of the internship which made things function smoothly the majority of the time and even if we face any difficulty, we can communicate the same with the contact person.
Good things
There were a lot of good things among them the very good were: –
- Exposure to various government departments whereby we have learnt about the day-to-day functioning of the Government Departments and various places established under one or the other Act.
- Got to know about various Acts such as the Senior Citizens Act, 2007, Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 and Sakhi (One Stop Centre) where a Victim Woman can get six services at one place.
- Got to know about various Supreme Court Landmark Judgements related to Legal Aid.
- Amazing Networking opportunity with various people at the Court, Fellow Interns and different places we had visited.
- Able to sharpen my Communication, Research, and Drafting Skills.
- Also got acquainted with ADR Mechanisms and their importance to decrease the load on courts across the Territory of India.
