About Clinical Legal Education at JGU

Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer Centre for Clinical Legal Education (CLE) at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) was launched with the inception of the University in 2009. At JGLS, we believe that community outreach is the responsibility of lawyers and consequently, the clinics are designed to enable students to imbibe the values required from socially responsible legal practitioners. These
clinics work on social justice issues of vital importance.

The Law and Marginalisation Clinic, Centre for Justice, Law and Society (CJLS).

The Law and Marginalisation Clinic at the Centre for Justice, Law and Society is an advocacy community outreach and legal aid initiative that brings together activists, movements, scholars, and community members. The goals of our clinic are decided by our collaborators and friends in the trans justice and SRHR movement. The Clinic’s legal aid initiative was established in 2013 in response to a growing demand for legal aid and capacity-building by transgender and gender-diverse persons.

Centre for Justice Law & Society

CJLS is a multidisciplinary reservation center that seeks to bridge the gap between academia and activism and has spent over a decade dedicating its efforts to create spaces for learning to create awareness on issues of law and marginalization and advocate for radical policy changes through its pedagogical interventions. critically engages with contemporary issues at the intersection of law, justice, society, and marginalization in South Asia.

Eligibility

This role comes with a teaching position and the candidate must therefore meet the criteria for a clinical teaching faculty. As per the policy of the Office of Clinical Legal Education at JGLS, individuals are required to meet the following requirements to be hired as teaching clinical faculty:

  • an LLM degree or other equivalent postgraduate qualification;
  • advocacy experience of five years, which shall include one year of experience in clinical pedagogy; This may include coursework experience in clinical learning at an LLM Programme and/or clinical teaching.
  • experience in writing reports and publishing journal articles; and
  • Litigation experience will be valuable.

Responsibilities

Primary tasks will include:

  • Clinical teaching and assessment for a one-year-long clinical course for 8 credits;
  • Supervising 2-credit winter and summer clinics in the month of January and July.
  • Working on legal aid cases including client meetings, drafting, filing, and coordinating with lawyers and court staff, among others;
  • Supervising all the legal aid work undertaken by the Clinic including management and supervision of all cases for legal consultation and drafting and research for live cases before judicial forums;
  • Facilitating client meetings and drafting of legal notices, letters and other such material for legal aid work at the Clinic;
  • Supervising all lawyers, associates, paralegals and interns working with the Clinic on legal aid initiatives.
  • Clinical projects, reports and publications including writing including research, writing , editing and designing.
  • Fostering collaborators for clinical courses and developing a clinical project in consultation with them.
  • Attending conferences, workshops and seminars including pedagogy workshops on clinical teaching
  • Drafting funding proposals and report writing for grant opportunities;
  • Drafting of quarterly and annual progress reports to be submitted to the CLE Office
  • Managing the social media pages for the Law & Marginalisation Clinic
