About the Conference
The global imperative for sustainable development has positioned the green economy at the forefront of economic transformation. In the context of India, a nation characterized by its burgeoning economy and pressing environmental challenges, the transition from regulation-driven environmental policies to a revenue-generating green economy has emerged as a pivotal theme. As sustainability considerations increasingly influence market access, competitiveness, and global value chains, India’s engagement with WTO disciplines, free trade agreements, and plurilateral and unilateral sustainability initiatives becomes central to India’s green growth narrative.
India’s green economy is characterized by its commitment to sustainability, as evidenced by initiatives such as the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), Renewable Energy Targets, and circular economy strategies. These initiatives operate within a complex legal and institutional landscape that includes domestic regulation, voluntary standards, and transnational governance mechanisms influencing trade and investment decisions. Regulatory frameworks have historically driven environmental policies, yet recent developments in green financing, carbon trading, and sustainable business models indicate a shift toward revenue-driven sustainability. This shift raises important questions regarding regulatory coherence, legal certainty for market actors, and enforcement capacity. The conference will provide an in-depth analysis of this transformation.
