Through curriculum development, research projects and disability studies, the Centre aims to provide meaningful contribution in the areas of disability and human rights, disability and society, accessibility and reasonable accommodations, inclusive education, gender and disability, amongst others.
About the Webinar
With an objective to accomplish its goals enshrined in the mission and vision of the Centre, GCDS is organizing a webinar on Conducive Work Environment for Employees with Disabilities: Prospects and Realities on the 17th of September, 2021 from 3-6 PM.
Background
A dignified life for every person lies in his secured and appropriate job. It is very much applicable to persons with disabilities. There are more than 12 million persons with disabilities in India, which is equivalent to 2.1% of the national population. Government welfare schemes like pension, financial aid, and free bus pass could help the disabled but, appropriate employment is the only means which presently ensures a dignified life for them. UNCPD and RPWD mandate the state to ensure a conducive work environment for employees with disabilities including addressing the reasonable accommodation of their accessibility concerns.
In this webinar, GCDS aims to find out how much are employees with disabilities satisfied with their jobs and perceive the environment of their workplace as being conducive for a suitable workplace. GCDS will also discuss its research outcome on the project titled ‘Impact Analysis of Work Environment of Employees with Disability in the Government Organizations of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Districts’.
