The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy is inviting applications for the position of Research Fellow in its Applied Law and Technology Research (ALTR) team, offering an opportunity to work on legal and policy reforms relating to privacy, artificial intelligence, data governance, and the digital economy.

Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy is an independent legal think tank dedicated to improving governance and public policy through high-quality legal research. Vidhi works closely with the Government of India, State Governments, and public institutions by providing research, drafting, and policy support across various stages of law-making. The organisation also undertakes and disseminates independent research on critical areas of legal reform.

About the Job
Vidhi is hiring a Research Fellow for its Applied Law and Technology Research (ALTR) Team. The selected candidate will conduct legal and policy research and contribute to evidence-based reforms in areas affecting India’s digital economy.
Research Fellows work closely with various teams at Vidhi and may also contribute to projects across the organisation based on institutional requirements and individual expertise.
Areas of Work
The Research Fellow will initially work on issues relating to:
- Privacy and Data Protection
- Data Governance
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ethics and Governance
- Digital Public Infrastructure
- Information Technology Governance
- Legal Reforms for the Digital Economy
Eligibility
Essential
- Undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree in Law.
- Minimum 1–2 years of demonstrable work experience.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
Desirable
- Prior demonstrable experience in public policy.
Responsibilities
- Undertake high-quality research on Indian and international legal and policy frameworks.
- Provide research and legislative drafting assistance for engagements.
- Develop and execute independent research projects.
- Prepare reports, research notes, presentations, and other publications.
- Coordinate and attend meetings with government officials, academics, researchers, and stakeholders.
- Organise and participate in consultations for informing and disseminating Vidhi’s research work.
Salary
Remuneration will be competitive and commensurate with experience, in accordance with Vidhi’s internal structure.
