Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri Law College Conducted B.R. Ambedkar National Debate Competition

The B.R. Ambedkar National Debate Competition, held on April 25–26, 2025, at Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri Law College , brought together law students from across India to engage in rigorous intellectual discourse. The college’s Students’ Union successfully hosted the prestigious event aimed to honor Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy by fostering critical thinking and debate on pressing legal and social issues.
Participants debated topics ranging from constitutional rights to contemporary legal challenges, demonstrating their analytical skills and command over legal principles.
Initially, the competition was scheduled to accommodate 20+ slots for participating teams. However, owing to the overwhelming response from students across various institutions led to a significant expansion. To accommodate the enthusiasm and ensure maximum participation, the slots were increased to 33. Ultimately, the competition witnessed the active involvement of over 70–75 participants, from across west Bengal and India, each bringing their unique perspectives and debating prowess to the forum.
The competition structure was carefully designed with three main rounds: Preliminary Round, Semi-Final Round, and Final Round. To make the finale even more competitive and exciting, the Final Round was further divided into Round 1 and Round 2, ensuring a thorough and fair assessment of the top finalists.
The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by our respected Teacher-in-Charge, symbolizing the beginning of two days filled with knowledge, enlightenment, and spirited dialogue.
Day One, the participants were adjudicated by distinguished professors from WBNUJS (West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences) and other reputed institutions, ensuring a fair and high-standard evaluation. Their insights and judgments added immense value to the quality of the debates.
On Day Two, we had the honour of welcoming Hon’ble Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya, a distinguished alumnus of our college, whose presence added immense prestige to the event. His words of encouragement and wisdom inspired all the participants and attendees, making the final day even more special.
We are also proud to announce that Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri Law College secured the 3rd position in the competition, showcasing the talent and debating excellence of our students.
Over the two days, the college witnessed a vibrant exchange of ideas on thought-provoking topics, judged by an esteemed panel comprising academicians, legal practitioners, and debate experts. The event not only celebrated the intellectual capabilities of the participants but also reinforced the importance of dialogue in building a just and equitable society.
