Established in 2004–05 as a constituent department of Panjab University, the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) has steadily evolved into a centre of excellence in legal education, combining academic rigour with a forward-looking, research-oriented approach. Located in Chandigarh, the institute provides a dynamic intellectual space that encourages critical inquiry into contemporary legal and interdisciplinary issues.

About UILS Student Law Review

In line with the spirit of the UILS Student Law Review (USLR), the institute actively promotes a culture of scholarly engagement and legal research. It encourages students to move beyond conventional classroom learning and
contribute meaningfully to academic discourse on evolving legal challenges. The emphasis on research writing, analysis of emerging jurisprudence, and exploration of socio-legal themes reflects the core objective of USLR-to create a platform for thoughtful, innovative, and impactful legal scholarship.

The UILS Student Law Review (USLR) is a student-run academic journal of the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. It is published bi-annually and serves as a peer-reviewed and referred platform
fostering meaningful engagement with contemporary legal issues. It seeks to encourage critical engagement with evolving legal issues while promoting high standards of academic writing and research.

The UILS Student Law Review (USLR) is inviting submissions for Volume III, Issue II of the Journal. We welcome original and unpublished manuscripts from students, academicians, and legal professionals across diverse areas of law. This issue aims to foster rigorous legal discourse and provide a platform for insightful, well-researched contributions that engage with contemporary legal challenges

Eligibility

  •  Students enrolled in 5-year integrated law courses, 
  • 3-year law courses,
  •  as well as LL.M. students and Research Scholars from recognised law schools across the globe are eligible to submit their papers.

Submission Categories

  • Articles: 3,000–5,000 words (descriptive and analytical)
  • Case Comments: 1,500–3,000 words (analysis of judgments)
  • Legislative Comments: 1,500–3,000 words (analysis of laws/bills)
  • Book Reviews: 1,500–3,000 words (review of legal books)

Submission Guidelines

  • The aforementioned word limits are exclusive of footnotes. The word limit can be relaxed depending upon the quality of the submission. The Editorial Board has the sole discretion in this matter and its decision shall be final.
  • Every submission must contain an abstract of not more than 250 words encapsulating the central idea of the paper which should be in italics. Manuscripts not containing an abstract shall be summarily rejected. The manuscript must also contain 5 keywords.
  • Co-authorship of not more than two authors is permitted.
  • The USLR follows a one-author, one-submission policy. The latest submission made by the author(s) shall be considered for publication while previous submissions shall not be considered, subject to any indication to the contrary expressed by the author(s).
  • All submissions made to the Review should be original. Submissions exceeding 15% plagiarism limit shall be summarily rejected.
  • The manuscript must not contain any information relating to the identity of the author(s).
  • Although articles shall be subject to a rigorous review process, the accuracy of quotations, titles, names, dates, charts, tables, footnotes, conclusion and recommendations etc. is solely the responsibility of the author(s).

Formatting & Citation Guidelines

  • The USLR follows ‘The Indian Law Institute (ILI)’ citation system. The use of speaking footnotes and endnotes is highly discouraged.
  • The text should be justified.
  •  The body of the manuscript must be in Font: Times New Roman, Size: 12 and Spacing: 1.5 spacing.
  •  The footnotes must be in Font: Times New Roman, Size: 10 and Spacing: single spacing.
  •   Authors before submitting their manuscript must ensure that they follow according to the link provided by the USLR: https://ili.ac.in/cstyle.pdf.
  •  The Authors are refrained from dividing their research paper into chapters and instead write them as separate parts dividing it into separate headings or by using headings and sub-headings. Failure to adhere to these guidelines, the USLR Editorial Board reserves the right to reject your Research Paper.

Style Guidelines

  • Title – Times New Roman, 14 points, 1.5 line spacing, Bold, All Caps, Centre Aligned.
  • Abstract – Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.15 line spacing, Italics, Justified, 1cm indent on both sides.
  • Heading Level 1 – Times New Roman, 14 points, 1.5 line spacing, Bold, Capitalize each word and Small Caps, Centre Aligned, Numbering should be: I, II, III, …
  • Heading Level 2 – Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.5 line spacing, Italics, Sentence case, Centre Aligned, Numbering should be: A, B, C, …
  • Heading Level 3 – Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.5 line spacing, Italics and Underlined, Sentence case, Left Aligned, Numbering should be: a), b), c), …
  • Heading Level 4 – Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.5 line spacing, Italics, Sentence case, Left Aligned, Numbering should be: i., ii, iii, …
  • Footnotes – Times New Roman, 10 points, 1.0 line spacing, Justified.
  • Acronyms and short forms on first instance should be spelled out in parentheses. These acronyms or short forms should be followed at all further instances in the manuscript.
  • Names of cases, publications, books, emphasised words, and uncommon foreign words should be italicised.
  • Numbers should be written in words, and percentage should be denoted by ‘%’ symbol.
  • ILI citation style to be followed (see point V of Formatting and Citation Guidelines).

Processing Fee

There is no submission or publication (processing) fee for any manuscript submitted to or accepted by the Journal.
