Over 3 Crore Cases Disposed of in First National Lok Adalat of 2025; Settlement Value Crosses ₹18,212 Crore

In a major boost to the justice delivery system, the first National Lok Adalat of 2025 witnessed the disposal of over 3.09 crore cases across 37 States and Union Territories, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) confirmed.

Held under the leadership of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna (Patron-in-Chief, NALSA) and Justice BR Gavai (Executive Chairman, NALSA), the nationwide initiative helped resolve both pre-litigation and pending cases, with the total value of settlements touching ₹18,212.23 crore.

“The disposal of over 3.09 crore cases demonstrates the commitment of the legal services authorities to ensuring justice reaches every individual in a timely and efficient manner,” said Justice Gavai in a statement.

Breakdown of Cases Handled

As per NALSA’s data, a total of 2,58,28,368 pre-litigation cases and 50,82,181 pending cases were taken up across 13 major categories. The overall disposal rate stood at 79.01%.

Top Categories by Volume (Pre-Litigation)

  • Water Bills (excluding non-compoundable): 19.57 lakh
  • Criminal Compoundable Offence Cases: 12.07 lakh
  • Electricity Bill Cases: 9.69 lakh
  • Revenue Cases: 78.04 lakh
  • Other Civil Cases: 57.24 lakh

Top Categories by Volume (Pending Cases)

  • Criminal Compoundable Offence Cases: 20.66 lakh
  • NI Act (Section 138) Cases: 1.46 lakh
  • Electricity Bills (Pending): 71,769
  • Other Civil Cases: 83,934
  • Revenue Cases: 59,134

State Highlights

  • Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of disposals, showcasing effective mobilisation by the State Legal Services Authority.
  • Jharkhand led in percentage disposal, clocking a near-perfect 99.95% disposal rate.
