Supreme Court AoR Exam 2025 to be Held from June 16 to 21; Applications Open Until April 30

The Supreme Court of India has officially announced the schedule for the much-anticipated Advocate-on-Record (AoR) Examination 2025. According to a notification released on April 9, 2025, the examination will be conducted on June 16, 17, 20, and 21, 2025 at New Delhi.
Aspiring Advocates-on-Record must submit their applications by 5:00 PM on April 30, 2025. Applications can be submitted in person at Room No. 307, 3rd Floor, B-Block, Administrative Buildings Complex, Supreme Court of India. Alternatively, candidates may also provisionally submit scanned copies of their applications via email at [email protected], followed by a mandatory hard copy submission through post or courier.
Eligibility criteria require advocates to have completed one year of continuous training under a registered Advocate-on-Record by April 30, 2025. A Certificate of Completion of Training must be furnished along with the application. Candidates must also ensure they have not exhausted their five permitted attempts, though a one-time relaxation has been granted by excluding the December 2021 exam from the attempt count.
The examination fee is ₹750, payable to UCO Bank, Supreme Court Compound, New Delhi. A copy of the fee receipt must be attached with the application form.
The AoR Examination 2025 will be held in pen-and-paper mode only. Candidates must appear for all papers. Absence in any paper after issuance of roll numbers will be treated as insufficient preparation, and the candidate will be barred from sitting for subsequent exams without express permission from the Board of Examiners.
The syllabus has also been clarified through additional notices:
- Paper II (Drafting) includes petitions for Special Leave, plaints, written statements under Article 131, review petitions, transfer petitions, contempt petitions, and interlocutory applications such as bail and condonation of delay.
- Paper III (Advocacy and Professional Ethics) will test candidates on professional conduct, legal ethics, the Advocates Act, duties of advocates, confidentiality, mediation ethics, adversary system critiques, and current developments in the legal profession.
- Paper IV (Leading Cases) will feature an updated list of 86 landmark Supreme Court judgements. Candidates will be provided with Head Notes in the examination hall, which must be returned without any markings.
Candidates eligible under Regulation 11(i) or 11(ii), who partially passed in previous attempts, can opt to appear in one paper or sit for the entire examination afresh. This decision must be confirmed while submitting the application.
Additionally, there will be no provision for re-evaluation of answer sheets after the results are declared.
With the notification, the Supreme Court has urged candidates to carefully follow the instructions to avoid disqualification. The Registry will not entertain incomplete, illegible, or delayed applications.
The AoR Examination remains a vital gateway for advocates aiming to practice independently in the Supreme Court. Those clearing the exam secure the prestigious designation of Advocate-on-Record, granting them the exclusive right to file and act in Supreme Court cases.
