About the Event

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat is organising a National Conference on New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in collaboration with PMMMNMTT, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, and National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research, Bhopal.

The New Education Policy of India (NEP), 2020 outlines a new vision of the education system in India.

Replacing the previous National Policy on Education (1986), NEP offers a comprehensive framework for reforming the education in India from elementary to the higher education with a special focus on flexibility in choosing subjects, skill development, enhancement of practical, critical, and experimental thinking, reduction of curricular overload, vocational learning, promotion of learning in regional language, regular and formative assessment, encouragement of differently-abled learners, and equitable and inclusive education. With a goal to increase Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) by 50%, flexibility is the hallmark of NEP.

It is true that the policy provisions for tremendous change in the elementary education system but the changes advised for the higher education system in India are of paramount concern. It seeks to establish the Higher Education Commission of India, a single and unitary body for all higher education systems. Likewise, to regulate medical and legal education, separate bodies will be constituted.

Other major features include Open and Distance Learning, online education and digital learning, and vocational and financial education. LOKVIDYA, PARAKH, and the Internationalisation of education are a few other key aspects of the new education policy to make education in India more fruitful, professionally beneficial, and globally meaningful.

As one can see that the policy provides more options in choosing the subjects and more flexibility to enter and exit the course with authorized certification, it also dissolves the distinctions based on subjects such as arts/science/commerce or curricular, co-curricular & extracurricular. Worth highlighting is its flexibility, which distinguishes this policy from others because it gives the students adequate options to plan their careers and future.

The objectives of the NEP undoubtedly set very high goals to transform the lives of the learners and thereby the socio-economic environment of the nation but in view of the huge population with a diversity of various sorts, infrastructural limitations, and other factors, all the stakeholders are bound to think seriously over its effective implementation and other related challenges.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat is organising a National Conference on New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in collaboration with PMMMNMTT, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, and National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research, Bhopal from July 30 to 31.
