Chandigarh Law College, Jhanjeri Concludes 1st National Moot Court Competition

The Chandigarh Law College, Jhanjeri, organized the 1st National Moot Court Competition on 2nd and 3rd November 2023. The Moot proposition for this prestigious event was released in October 2023, along with the official brochure and a detailed rule book, accessible on the official website of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri, and various official knowledge and media partner websites, including Rotaract District Organization RID 3080, Live Law, LawBhoomi, and others.
The inaugural ceremony of the event, which took place on 2nd November at 11:00 a.m in the Auditorium of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri, was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including DRS Abhinandana Singh, DRS Adv. Shourya Mehra, DLCC Adv. Akshay Madan

A total of thirty-five teams had registered for this competition, and they were as follows:

However, three teams were absent due to personal reasons after completing the registration and fee payment.
Formation of Committees of Student Volunteers
Student volunteers played a crucial role in the event, serving in various committees, including Accommodation committee, Publicity committee, court hall management committee, discipline committee, and others. The list of volunteers is enclosed along with this report.
Mode of Competition
The competition comprised four rounds: 2 Preliminary rounds, a Semi-Final, and a Final Round. In each of these rounds, one speaker from a team argued against the speaker of another team.
On 2nd November, the teams participated in two intellectually demanding preliminary rounds, adjudicated by an eminent panel of academicians and practicing advocates. Following the Preliminary Rounds, the Quarter-Final Rounds took place in the afternoon, with the top 8 qualifying teams judged by a highly specialized panel of academicians and lawyers. The Quarter-Final and Semi-Final Rounds were knockout rounds, where teams pushed hard for a straight win against their opponents.
The Semi-Final Rounds were adjudged by Division benches, each consisting of senior practicing lawyers, testing the teams thoroughly on their knowledge of law and facts.
The riveting final rounds were organized on November 3rd and were presided over by a three-Judge Bench consisting of:

The winner of the competition was The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, who were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 21,000.
The Runners-up included the Department of Law, Panjab University, with the Best Mooter from Asian Law College, Best Researcher from Christ University, and Best Researcher from Delhi Metropolitan Education. In the final round, Adv. Anil Mehta, Standing Counsel for UT Chandigarh, served as a judge and was present at the valedictory ceremony.
