About the Organisation

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) is a premier law university, situated in Kochi, Kerala, known for its academic excellence and focus on specialised legal education. In 2014, NUALS introduced the M. K. Nambyar Memorial NUALS International Maritime Law Arbitration Competition (NIMLAC), India’s first international maritime law arbitration moot, which has since earned a distinguished standing among contemporary maritime moots in the country.

About the Opportunity

NUALS presents the 7th Edition of NIMLAC, this year offering law students a unique opportunity to engage with advanced issues in international maritime arbitration through a professionally structured and practice-oriented moot format.This edition is being organised in collaboration with Phoenix Legal, Jus Mundi, the Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation, and the Maldives Arbitration Centre.

Theme

The 2026 edition is centred on a complex maritime casualty arising during the international voyage of M.V. Pragya. The proposition explores critical issues including carrier liability, deviation, carriage of dangerous goods, and emergency arbitration under the SIAC Rules, 2025.

Eligibility

The Competition is open to all students pursuing an LL.B. degree. A maximum of two teams is permitted per institution.

Registration Fee & Process

Participating teams are required to pay a preliminary registration fee ofINR 3,000 for Indian teams and USD 50 for overseas teams. The fee is payable, through the official website, at the time of registration.

Prizes

The Competition offers a substantial prize pool, includingINR 1,00,000 for Winners and INR 75,000 for Runners-up with Special awards for Best Memorial and Best Speaker.

  • Team Registration Deadline: 7th March 2026
  • Preliminary Rounds (Online): 28th – 29th March 2026
  • Grand Finals (Offline): 18th April 2026
