The National Human Rights Commission of India is a Statutory public body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of 28 September 1993. The Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, gave it a statutory basis.

The National Human Rights Commission has expressly been mandated to promote Human Rights literacy and awareness vide Section 12 (h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.

NHRC Summer Internship Programme 2025

To spread awareness among University students about the need for protecting and promoting Human Rights, the Commission has been regularly conducting ‘Summer and Winter Internship Programmes’ since 1998 and 2000, respectively.

This year, the “Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2025” commences from 16th June, 2025 (Monday) to 11th July, 2025 (Friday). Applications are invited from eligible students from the entire country.

Eligibility

  • Students who have completed 1st year and are pursuing 2nd or 3rd year LLB (3 years) courses;
  • Students who have completed 3 years OR Semester VI of the 5-year course of BA/BA LLB etc., and are pursuing 4th and 5th years;
  • Students pursuing PG Diploma in Human Rights, MA in Human Rights, PG students of Political Science, Sociology, Social Work (MSW), Criminology, Public Administration Rural Development, History, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, Mass Communication, International Relations and any of the discipline of Social Sciences would be considered with preference to students pursuing their final year.

Structure of the Summer Internship Programme (SIP)

About 70-75 sessions on various human rights issues are proposed to be covered to sensitise the interns. The SIP 2025 will include the following inputs:

  • Classroom sessions
  • Interaction with Hon’ble Chairperson and Members of NHRC
  • Research project work on Human Rights issues
  • Book Review
  • Films on Human Rights & Discussion – Child Labour issues, Anti Trafficking, Rights of the Elderly, Health and Education issues etc. and discussions
  • Field Visits to Police Stations, Jail, NGOs and Parliament/ National Commission for Women/ Minorities/ Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/ National Green tribunal/ national Legal Services authority/ National Commission for Protection of Child Rights/ Supreme Court of India

Stipend

All selected interns will be paid an amount of Rs. 12,000/- (Rupees Twelve Thousand only) as a stipend.

The selected interns from outside Delhi will be allowed ordinary second-class train fare to New Delhi and back to their place of study through the shortest route.

Awards

  • Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis of the following: a. Attendance, Punctuality, Discipline, and Participation in sessions i.e. mandatory; b. Timely submission of Group Project Presentation, Project Reports, and Book Review.
  • An amount of Rs. 15,000/-, Rs. 10,000/-, and Rs. 5,000/- will be given as prize money for interns who are placed Ist, IInd, and IIIrd respectively for the Group Research Project.
  • The five interns with the highest marks for the Book Review will be rewarded in the form of books priced not higher than Rs. 1,000/- each.
  • The top three interns from the Declamation contest will be rewarded in the form of books priced not higher than Rs. 1,000/- each.

The last date for the submission of the application is 20 May 2025.

The Final List of Selected Interns will be displayed on the NHRC website.

How to Apply?

Enclose attested scanned copies of mark-sheet from 10th Standard onwards and mark-sheet of each year/semester of presently pursuing course(and recommendation by the concerned HOD/Dean/Principal which should be of a date subsequent to the date of uploading of this advertisement and for the presently pursued course).

In the absence of the following, the applications are liable to be rejected.

  • Scanned attested mark-sheets of 10th and 12th Standard, All Semesters of Graduation Course & marks sheets of all semesters of the Pursuing Course. 
  • Statement of purpose (SOPs) and
  • Scanned Recommendation letter/email by HOD/Dean/Principal concerned in the annexed Proforma (Annexure I).

Kindly note – Incomplete applications/applications without attested copies of mark sheets (10th Class, 12th Class, All semesters of Graduation Course & pursuing Course), Letter of recommendation &SOPs etc. will be rejected and Applications sent through e-mails/posts will not be entertained. No application will be accepted after deadline i.e. 20 May 2025.
