About the opportunity
The Exeter Centre for International Law is seeking to appoint up to three Research Assistants in International Law for a fixed-term project during February and March 2022. The successful applicants will work with Professor Aurel Sari to carry out research relating to the law of armed conflict.
Job Description
The Research Assistants are expected to work full time during between 31 January 2022 and 31 March 2022. The posts are affiliated with the Exeter Centre for International Law, but the work is to be performed remotely, with the possibility of occasional in-person meetings in Exeter (subject to arrangement). The Research Assistants will conduct research on the law of armed conflict applicable to air operations, peace support missions and outer space. Their tasks include preparing bibliographies; in-depth comparisons of official publications; undertaking targeted literature reviews; analysis of primary materials on selected rules and topics; and writing briefings. The findings will be captured in the form of working papers. Successful applicants will be employed through the University of Exeter’s casual claims process. A right to work in the UK is required.

Salary: £27,924 – £36,382, pro rata and depending on experience

Applicant requirements
Applicants should ideally be of post-doctoral standing, although postgraduate applicants with relevant qualifications and experience will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a background in international law, preferably with knowledge of the law of armed conflict. Attention to detail, excellent analytical and writing abilities, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision is essential.
