About the Job

Standard Chartered Bank is inviting applications for the position of Head, Specialized Collection, India. The role involves leading litigation and legal collections, managing external legal partners, overseeing debt recovery strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving the bank’s specialised collection operations.

Eligibility

Candidates must:

• Hold an LL.B. degree.
• Have a strong legal background with litigation experience.
• Possess excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office and English.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

• Lead legal collection activities in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
• Manage end-to-end litigation for and against the bank while mitigating legal risks.
• Oversee law firm and vendor management, including governance and performance monitoring.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders on litigation strategy and legal proceedings.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial and mortgage-related contracts.
• Monitor and manage debt recovery, foreclosure, and legal enforcement processes.
• Represent the bank before courts and enforcement authorities where required.
• Provide legal advice to senior management on regulatory developments and litigation risks.
• Lead and develop the litigation team while ensuring compliance with the bank’s policies and code of conduct.
• Maintain legal management information (MI), monitor litigation performance, and recommend improvements to collection strategies.
• Ensure proper documentation of litigation matters and timely reporting to stakeholders.
• Monitor fraud risks, money laundering concerns, and other legal and regulatory issues.

Skills Required

Candidates should possess:

• Strong litigation and legal collections experience.
• Knowledge of banking laws, debt recovery, and contract management.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Leadership and team management capabilities.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Additional Information

The role involves regular interaction with internal stakeholders, including credit, risk, operations, legal, and policy teams, as well as external stakeholders such as law firms, valuation firms, clients, government authorities, and other service providers.
