About the Course on Labour Laws

The course on Labour Laws explores the role of labour laws in achieving social justice and strengthening the welfare state through the study of Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles such as equality before law, non-discrimination in employment, freedom of association, right to livelihood, prohibition of forced and child labour, equal pay for equal work, living wages, and humane conditions of work.

Session 3: LAW OF WAGES –REMUNERATION & PROTECTION

  • Non-payment and delayed payment
  • Authorised and unauthorised deductions
  • Remedies available to workmen

Session 4: HEALTH, SAFETY & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Duty to provide safe working conditions
  • Prevention of occupational hazards

  • Environmental protection and labour safety

Session 5:  SOCIAL SECURITY & WELFARE LEGISLATIONS

  • Meaning of social security
  • Historical and constitutional basis

Session 6: INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS & COLLECTIVE BARGAINING

  • Industrial Disputes Act, 1947
