About the Job

Aditya Birla Group is hiring for the position of SH Land & Legal (Deputy Manager/Manager – Land & Legal) within its Cement organisation at Sarlanagar Cement Works, Karnataka.

The role is responsible for the end-to-end management of land-related matters and legal affairs supporting cement plant operations, mining activities, and expansion projects. It also involves ensuring clear land titles, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and effective management of litigation and legal documentation.

Responsibilities

Land Acquisition & Management

  • Lead land acquisition activities for cement plants, mines, WHRS, rail sidings, roads, and infrastructure.
  • Conduct title due diligence, verify ownership records, and manage land documentation.
  • Handle land purchase, lease, transfer, conversion, mutation, and registration processes.
  • Resolve land-related disputes, encroachments, right-of-way issues, and compensation claims.
  • Coordinate with Revenue, Survey, Forest, and Local Authorities.

Mining & Project Land Support

  • Support legal aspects of mining lease applications, renewals, transfers, and amendments.
  • Ensure compliance with land-related conditions under mining, forest, and environmental clearances.
  • Assist project and operations teams with land possession, access, and statutory approvals.

Legal & Litigation Management

  • Manage litigation related to land.
  • Coordinate with external advocates, counsels, and consultants and monitor case strategy and progress.
  • Ensure timely filings, hearings, and effective representation before courts, tribunals, and authorities.
  • Maintain litigation MIS and periodic reporting to management.

Regulatory Compliance & Advisory

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, including:
    • Land Acquisition Acts
    • Mining and Minerals laws
    • Environmental and Forest laws
    • Revenue and local land regulations
  • Track changes in land and mining laws and advise management on their legal implications.
  • Provide legal opinions and advisory support on land and legal risks.

Documentation & Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and vet agreements relating to land, leases, right-of-way, compensation, and settlements.
  • Support the negotiation and finalisation of land-related contracts and MoUs.
  • Ensure proper custody and maintenance of original land documents and legal records.

Stakeholder & Team Management

  • Liaise with government authorities, local administration, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor land and legal teams at the unit/cluster level.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including Projects, Mining, Operations, Finance, and HR.
