About the Job
UPL Limited is hiring a Legal Counsel – UPL SAS for its Mumbai office.
The role involves handling corporate advisory, regulatory compliance, and litigation management in a fast-paced, regulated industry environment.
Eligibility
- 4–7 years of post-qualification experience (PQE)
- LL.B./LL.M. from a reputed university
- 4–7 years of experience in law firms and/or corporate legal teams
- Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and interpretation skills
- Experience handling regulatory issues and litigation
- Strong understanding of contract lifecycle management and compliance frameworks
- Ability to coordinate with senior stakeholders
- High sense of ownership, confidentiality, and ethical conduct
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities
1. Contracting & Non-Litigation Work
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements such as:
- Supply contracts
- Distribution agreements
- Service provider agreements
- NDAs, LOIs, and inter-company agreements
- Advising business teams on day-to-day legal matters
- Ensuring compliance with:
- Insecticides Act/Rules
- Fertilizer Control Order (FCO)
- Legal Metrology laws
- Labour Codes
- Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA)
- Other sectoral regulations
- Supporting policy drafting, SOP development, and governance processes
2. Litigation & Dispute Management
- Coordinating civil, criminal, regulatory, and commercial litigation
- Working with external counsel
- Preparing litigation notes, briefs, complaints, affidavits, and responses
- Supporting investigations and evidence documentation
- Preparing management summaries for high-stake matters
3. Internal Stakeholder Management
- Working closely with Registration, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, HR, Finance, and Operations teams
- Maintaining contract trackers, litigation dashboards, and compliance sheets
4. Risk Mitigation & Compliance
- Identifying legal risks and proposing mitigation strategies
- Ensuring timely closure of compliance queries and escalations
