The role also involves legal and compliance work, including reviewing agreements, supporting customer compliance queries, maintaining legal documents, and ensuring that product claims remain legally defensible.

Eligibility

  • LL.B. or an equivalent law degree from a recognised institution.

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a law firm, in-house legal team, compliance function, or legal publishing role.
  • Demonstrable writing ability beyond pleadings and contracts.
  • Working familiarity with data protection law or the ability to quickly develop expertise in a regulatory area.
  • Ability to write accurately for a non-legal and business audience without unnecessary legal language.
  • Fluency with AI tools for research, drafting, and summarisation, along with the ability to verify citations, legal holdings, and dates against primary sources.
  • Strong research discipline and ability to rely on primary sources and verify whether legal guidance has been superseded.
  • Sound judgement regarding the distinction between explaining the law and providing legal advice.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor global privacy and data protection developments, including GDPR, ePrivacy, CCPA and other US state laws, LGPD, PIPEDA, PDPA, and emerging regulations.
  • Identify relevant regulatory developments for CookieYes and its customers.
  • Write long-form legal content, including regulation explainers, jurisdiction guides, compliance checklists, legal updates, and whitepapers.
  • Review marketing and product content for legal accuracy, particularly content making compliance-related claims.
  • Work with the SEO and AI search team on generative engine optimisation, schema, and citation-focused content formatting.
  • Translate regulatory obligations into product requirements in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
  • Support customer-facing compliance queries escalated by sales and support teams.
  • Develop internal reference materials to support compliance-related queries.
  • Review and maintain legal documents, including privacy policies, terms of service, DPAs, and vendor agreements.
  • Work with external counsel where required.
  • Prepare briefing notes for leadership on regulatory changes affecting the product roadmap or positioning.
  • Represent CookieYes through bylined articles, webinars, and industry commentary.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Privacy certification such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, or CIPM, or an intention to pursue one.
  • Prior experience at a SaaS, privacy technology, or legal technology company.
  • Experience drafting or negotiating DPAs and SaaS agreements.
  • Familiarity with SEO, GEO, traditional search, AI search, and AI Overviews.
  • Additional language abilities relevant to European jurisdictions.
  • Good understanding of major global privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA, DPA, PDPA, UCPA, and related regulations.

Application Procedure

Candidates should be able to demonstrate their writing ability outside traditional legal pleadings and contracts. Published work, a blog, newsletter, or a substantial piece written for a non-lawyer audience may be relevant.
