Share & spread the love

Name, College, Year of study

My name is Debasrita Choudhury. Currently I am in Fourth year of KLE Society’s Law College. At the time of said internship I was in Second year.

Name of organisation

I interned at Youth for Seva, a Bangalore based NGO. For the most part, I worked with their partner NGO- GAME India.

Duration of internship

The internship was for a period of one month, from 19 July 2019 to 14 August 2019.

Location

This internship consisted of a lot of field work throughout Bangalore.

Source of applying

I found out about Youth for Seva through classmates who previously interned there.

Task assigned

This was a very unique internship experience where I worked under the tutelage of partner NGO GAME India. It was all about finding and promoting small businesses and proprietorships. In the course of this internship, I travelled throughout the city, visiting and interviewing owners who ventured into building their own businesses. Collating that information and writing articles on it, that were later published on online platforms of GAME India, mostly instagram was among my daily tasks assigned. Zones like MG Road, Malleshwaram, VV Puram yielded a lot of relevant finds.

I found an interesting book store owner in MG Road, then an old lady from low income strata who started her life anew with a small business selling bags in Malleshwaram. It really was a terrific experience talking to such people. The purpose of GAME Initiative was the promotion of MSMEs, be it in food, textile, books or other industries. Bringing to light and promoting people who are working to be self sufficient with their businesses was the aim.

Apart from GAME, I volunteered with other activities of YSF. I helped in organising functions in government schools, went to charity events etc.

I think working with the NGO helped cultivate my interests in my own field. I always had an interest in socio-legal aspects. I could hone it more.

Stipend

There was no provision of stipend.

Conclusion

After Youth for Seva, I interned at other places, like law firms, and under Advocates chambers where I went to High Courts, City Civil Courts, attended arbitrations etc in both Bangalore and Kolkata. However, the experience with the NGO was the most unique and I learnt a lot. Needless to say, the law internships were tremendous and I gained a lot of knowledge related to my profession and career benefits but YFS will always hold a special place in my heart.
