About the Department of Commerce

Department of Commerce, Government of India functions under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and is responsible for formulating and monitoring Foreign Trade Policies (FTP). It also manages multilateral and bilateral commercial relations, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), export promotion, and trade facilitation.

About the Job

The Department of Commerce invites applications for engagement of Independent Consultants on a contractual basis as per DoC Guidelines dated 21.11.2025.

Eligibility

Essential Qualifications (as per domain):

  • Economics: Master’s in Economics (preferably International Trade)
  • Legal: LLB / LLM + PG Diploma in any legal subject

General Management:

  • MBA (from NIRF top 100 institution) OR
  • Master’s in Public Policy / International Affairs / International Trade

Data Science:

  • B.Tech / B.E / MCA / Master’s in Data Science / Data Analytics / Computational Mathematics

Note:

  • NICMAR Construction Management is considered equivalent to MBA
  • Foreign degrees will be evaluated via Times/QS rankings

Note: Ph.D. can be counted as up to 3 years of experience (without overlap).

Key Terms & Conditions

  • Fixed monthly remuneration (no additional allowances)
  • Initial contract (Young Professionals): 2 years + 1-year extension (maximum)
  • Working hours: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Leave: 1.5 days per month
  • Subject to document verification, police verification, and medical fitness
  • NDA and Non-compete agreement applicable
  • Either party may terminate with 30 days’ notice
  • No claim for permanent government employment
  • Governed by the Official Secrets Act, 1923
  • Travel across India may be required (TA/DA applicable)
