HPNLU, Shimla Secures Second Runner-Up Position at National Legal Aid Scheme Drafting Competition, 2026 Organized by Uttaranchal University

Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, has brought laurels to the institution by securing the Second Runner-Up position at the 1st National Legal Aid Scheme Drafting Competition, 2026 organized by Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University. The competition witnessed participation from law students across the country and focused on developing innovative and effective legal aid schemes aimed at enhancing access to justice.

The HPNLU team, comprising students of the third year (Deepali Chanotra and Samiya Mirza), demonstrated exceptional analytical, drafting, and problem-solving skills in conceptualizing a comprehensive legal aid scheme. Their performance stood out among numerous entries and earned them the distinction of securing the second runner-up position at the national level.

The competition was structured in two phases, including an online submission of legal aid schemes followed by a presentation round before an expert panel. It aimed to encourage students to engage with policy implementation challenges and to develop practical solutions for strengthening legal aid mechanisms in India. The competition offered attractive cash prizes to recognize excellence among participants. The Winner was awarded a cash prize of ₹11,000 along with a trophy, the First Runner-Up received ₹7,500 along with a trophy, and the Second Runner-Up was awarded ₹5,000 along with a trophy.

The achievement reflects the academic rigor and practical orientation imparted at HPNLU, Shimla, and highlights the University’s continued commitment to excellence in legal education and advocacy.
