About the Job

Barclays is hiring an Employment Legal Counsel to support its employment law and employee relations function across jurisdictions. The role involves providing strategic legal advice, managing employment-related disputes and litigation, partnering with HR and business stakeholders, and helping the organisation mitigate legal and reputational risks while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B. or equivalent) from a recognised university in India.
  • Qualification to practise law in India.
  • Solid experience advising on employment and labour law matters, including disciplinary actions, grievances, workplace investigations, employee relations issues, and employment lifecycle matters.
  • Experience managing employment litigation and disputes before courts, tribunals, labour authorities, and regulatory bodies, including coordinating with external counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement legal strategies for risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise Human Resources and business teams on employment, incentives, and pensions-related matters, including recruitment, policy issues, diversity matters, investigations, disputes, compensation, benefits, and pension matters.
  • Represent the bank in employment-related litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations.
  • Draft, review, and manage legal documents, including employment contracts, policies, severance agreements, incentive plans, and pension documentation.
  • Conduct legal research to monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting employment, incentives, and pensions.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes on employment-related legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify legal and regulatory developments and provide advice on compliance requirements.
  • Ensure applicable legal requirements are reflected in organisational policies, standards, and controls.
  • Advise and influence business decisions while contributing to policy development and operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support the resolution of complex legal issues.
  • Identify legal risks and contribute to the development of policies and procedures to strengthen governance and controls.
  • Manage legal risks associated with assigned responsibilities and support business objectives through effective stakeholder engagement.
