About the Job

NLSIU is inviting applications for 2 Senior Research Associate positions under the WILL Initiative. These are full-time contractual positions based at the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru. The initial tenure is one year, extendable based on project requirements and satisfactory performance.

Eligibility

Essential

• Graduate degree in Law.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience in legal research, policy engagement, and/or action-based research projects.

Desirable

• Master’s degree in Law, Social Sciences, or allied disciplines.
• Thorough understanding of the structure and functioning of the legal profession in India.
• Demonstrated research experience, including at least one publication or equivalent scholarly output.
• Excellent academic, policy, and public-facing writing and editing skills.
• Strong analytical, communication, technical, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Lead qualitative and quantitative research on women litigating lawyers, institutional challenges, and legal profession reforms.
• Ensure compliance with ethical research practices.
• Conduct legal and policy analysis, literature reviews, and data collection.
• Organize stakeholder consultations and identify reform measures.
• Design research resources, outreach materials, and dissemination strategies.
• Strengthen forums and networks for women lawyers.
• Supervise research associates and interns.
• Publish at least one peer-reviewed journal article annually or two shorter publications such as policy briefs, blog articles, case briefs, or commentaries.
• Contribute to proposal development, fundraising, and strategic research planning.
