About the Internship

The Centre for Social and Economic Progress is inviting applications for internships under The Pendency Lab. The internship is part of an ongoing knowledge-building exercise focused on judicial delay and the impact of institutional and policy interventions on the efficiency of India’s court system.

Areas of work may include:

  • Court management
  • Government litigation
  • Procedural design
  • Digitisation of judicial systems

The work is interdisciplinary and draws from law, economics, governance, and public policy.

The internship programme will be supervised by Shubho Roy.

Eligibility

The internship is suited for candidates with strong research and writing skills and an interest in governance and public policy, along with a basic understanding of judicial systems.

Strong candidates will typically demonstrate:

  • Interest in understanding how institutional systems function in practice
  • Ability to analyse complex questions without obvious answers
  • Comfort working with qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Clear and precise writing skills

The role is particularly suited to candidates with a background in economics, especially at the master’s level, though strong undergraduate applicants may also be considered.

Responsibilities

Interns will be involved in:

  • Policy research (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Drafting and synthesis for research outputs

Duration

2 months, extendable up to 3 months (June – August 2026)

Mode

Preferably hybrid, based at the Shiv Nadar University School of Law in Chennai. Remote arrangements may be considered for exceptional candidates.

₹10,000 per month
