NUALS Secures Runner-Up Position at 2nd TNNLU Commercial Trial Advocacy Competition 2026

A team from the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi, secured the Runner-Up position at the 2nd TNNLU Commercial Trial Advocacy Competition, 2026, organised by Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), Tiruchirappalli.
NUALS was represented by Gouri Nandana V, Ann Michelle Simon and M. Aashritha. The team advanced through the competition with its performance in commercial trial advocacy, presenting arguments and demonstrating courtroom skills before the adjudicating panels.

The competition was held on October 3 and 4, 2026, at the TNNLU campus in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. It was organised by the Trial Advocacy Committee of TNNLU and focused on practical advocacy in the context of commercial disputes.
Unlike conventional moot court competitions, trial advocacy contests place considerable emphasis on courtroom presentation and the practical handling of a case. Participants are expected to demonstrate legal reasoning, advocacy and an understanding of trial proceedings while dealing with the problem placed before them.
The winning team at the second edition came from the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai. The team comprising Pavietran, Nivethitha and A. Sai Shruthi emerged as the winners after the competitive rounds.
Apart from the team awards, the competition also recognised participants and institutions for individual performances. Bennett University, Greater Noida, received the Best Memorial of Arguments award. Its memorial team consisted of Ansh Pandey, Harshit Raj and Aakarsh Chaudhary.

Ansh Pandey of Bennett University was also named the Best Advocate of the competition for his performance during the advocacy rounds. Pavietran of the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai, received the Best Witness award.
The Commercial Trial Advocacy Competition is intended to give law students an opportunity to apply commercial law principles in a practical setting. It tests participants on advocacy, analytical ability, legal reasoning and courtroom skills in circumstances designed to resemble trial proceedings.
The result also marks another notable performance for NUALS in the competition. In the inaugural edition of the TNNLU Commercial Trial Advocacy Competition, a different NUALS team had emerged as the winner, reflecting the university’s continued participation in the event.
The second edition concluded with the School of Excellence in Law taking the winning position and NUALS finishing as Runner-Up, while Bennett University and individual participants were recognised for their performances in memorial drafting, advocacy and witness examination.
