NLSIU Bengaluru Wins Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition 2026, Secures Fourth World Title

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has won the 2026 Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, securing its fourth world championship title. The victory marks India’s return to the top position in the international competition after six years.
The winning team included Anandita Pande, Nikhilesh Mukherjee and Shreya Rajesh, who represented NLSIU in the 35th edition of the competition. The world finals took place in Antalya, Turkey, alongside the 77th International Astronautical Congress.

NLSIU competed against New York University (NYU) School of Law in the championship round. NYU had entered the competition as the defending world champion after winning the previous edition in 2025.
The final round was heard by three serving judges of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The panel included Judge Peter Tomka from Slovakia, Judge Dire Tladi from South Africa and Judge Bogdan-Lucian Aurescu from Romania.
Before reaching the world finals, the NLSIU team had secured first place in the Asia-Pacific Regional Rounds held in April 2026. This achievement qualified the students to represent the region at the international stage.
The regional competition brought together law students from different countries to present legal arguments concerning international space law. NLSIU’s regional victory allowed the team to advance to the championship rounds against other qualifying universities.

With the latest result, NLSIU has now won the Manfred Lachs world championship four times. Its earlier victories came in 2009, 2012 and 2017, establishing a record of repeated success in the competition.
