About the Job
AstraZeneca is hiring a Legal & Compliance Counsel for its Bengaluru office. The role involves advising leaders and teams on legal and regulatory matters, managing risks, supporting strategic partnerships, and developing frameworks that enable compliant and scalable business operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel on data privacy, employment, real estate, social media, ethics, and other general legal matters.
- Supervise statutory obligations, identify control gaps, and drive corrective actions.
- Brief leadership on emerging legal and regulatory developments and their business implications.
- Supervise legal disputes and provide reporting, critical issue, and resolution support.
- Partner with Procurement and Business teams to draft, review, negotiate, and complete commercial agreements.
- Enhance legal templates and reporting processes.
- Develop policies and legal documentation supporting operational governance and compliance.
- Design and implement a comprehensive compliance programme aligned with regional and global standards.
- Deliver compliance policies, processes, training, and support.
- Serve as the primary contact for compliance matters and support day-to-day decision-making.
- Facilitate investigations and audits and drive timely remediation of identified gaps.
- Lead board and general meeting processes and ensure compliance with corporate secretarial obligations.
- Support risk governance and advise leadership on strategic choices.
- Supervise legal budgets and expenditure.
- Support audit requirements and provide management reporting.
- Ensure secure maintenance of legal records.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in law from a reputed university.
- 3–5 years of experience in a multicultural company.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle and prioritise time-sensitive tasks in a high-paced environment.
- Ability to operate independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to build trusted working relationships with stakeholders.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Qualified Company Secretary.
- Experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or other highly regulated industries.
- Expertise in data privacy, anti-bribery/anti-corruption, and competition law frameworks.
- Familiarity with contract lifecycle management tools and legal operations reporting.
- Prior experience supporting board governance and enterprise risk management.
Work Arrangement
The role follows a flexible working arrangement, with an expectation of working from the office an average minimum of three days per week.
