High Court of Gujarat and Gujarat State Judicial Academy to Start Study Circle for Advocates Practicing in the High Court of Gujarat

In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening the professional competence of young members of the Bar and fostering closer jiacademic engagement between the Bench and the Bar, the High Court of Gujarat, in collaboration with the Gujarat State Judicial Academy (GSJA), today declared the commencement of “Study Circle (Symposium/Workshop) for Advocates practicing before the High Court of Gujarat having practice up to 10 years” at the Lecture Hall of the Gujarat State Judicial Academy, High Court of Gujarat, Ahmedabad.
Hon’ble the Chief Justice and Patron-in-Chief of the Gujarat State Judicial Academy – Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Sunita Agarwal has declared the commencement of ‘Study Circle (Symposium/Workshop) for the Advocates practicing in the High Court of Gujarat,
in the august presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bhargav D. Karia, Judge, High Court of Gujarat & President, Gujarat State Judicial Academy, Hon’ble Members of the Board of Governors of GSJA, Hon’ble Judges of the High Court of Gujarat, Senior Advocates and members of the Bar after the Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the High Court Lawns.

This initiative marks a pioneering academic programme undertaken by the High Court of Gujarat and the Gujarat State Judicial Academy. This study circle has been envisaged as a continuous learning process where the participants can improve their legal skills and knowledge about legal principles from senior advocates and subject experts.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble the Chief Justice Mrs. Justice Sunita Agarwal emphasized the indispensable role of advocates in the administration of justice and highlighted the importance of continuous legal education in an era of rapidly evolving jurisprudence. Her Ladyship observed that effective advocacy and sound legal research are essential components of a robust justice delivery system and appreciated the efforts made by the Gujarat State Judicial Academy in conceptualizing the programme.
The first phase of the Study Circle will comprise the following academic modules:
Module – I: Expanding Contours of ‘Maintainability’ in Writ Jurisdiction under Article 226
Module – II: Basic Principles of Administrative Law & Second Appeals under Section 100 CPC: The Doctrine of Substantial Question of Law
Module – III: Criminal Law Jurisdiction: Inherent Powers of High Courts under Section 482 CrPC / Section 528 BNSS – Scope, Limits and Judicial Discipline
The Study Circle is proposed to be conducted on a fortnightly basis, covering diverse subjects such as Constitutional Law, Writ Jurisdiction, Arbitration and Conciliation Law, Commercial Law, Public Interest Litigation, Service Law, Taxation Law, Admiralty Jurisdiction, Ethics, Drafting Skills, and other contemporary legal issues relevant to High Court practice.
Registration of participants for the “Study Circle (Symposium / Workshop Series) for Advocates Practicing in the High Court of Gujarat, “SERIES OF ACADEMIC MODULES – 2026” will begin shortly through the GSJA’s official website. The program is intended for advocates practicing before the High Court of Gujarat having practice up to ten years. Senior Advocates and subject experts will be resource persons and the study circle will be conducted at the Lecture Hall, Gujarat State Judicial Academy, High Court Campus, Ahmedabad. Registration fees for the same will be Rs. 100/- per program, which will have to be paid by each participant. Certificates of Participation will be issued to advocates attending the workshops.
The initiative is indicative of the dedication of the High Court of Gujarat and the Gujarat State Judicial Academy to professional excellence and the development of the legal fraternity, thus leading to strengthening of the justice delivery process.
