Indian Law Society, through ILS Law College, has announced the second round of recruitment for Azim Premji Foundation–supported Justice Initiatives for the period 2026–2028. The programmes are focused on improving access to justice and enhancing the quality of legal representation for marginalised communities in Maharashtra.

About the Project

The recruitment is for full-time, project-based positions under the “Fair Trial Programme – Kolhapur Central Jail & District Jail.”

The programme aims to improve access to justice for undertrial prisoners through legal representation, bail support, counselling, documentation assistance, and coordination with prison authorities and legal services institutions.

Fair Trial Programme – Kolhapur Central Jail & District Jail

Duration

Full-time project-based positions from April 2026 till December 2028.

Initial appointments will be for one year and may be renewed annually based on performance and project requirements.

Position 1: Senior Legal Fellow

Number of Positions

Salary

₹45,000 – ₹50,000 per month

Kolhapur, Maharashtra

Eligibility

Candidates applying for the role should have:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate degree in Law
  • 5 years or more of trial court experience, preferably in criminal law
  • Strong drafting, case analysis, and communication skills
  • Willingness to work in custodial settings

Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular prison visits and interacting with undertrial prisoners
  • Supervising Junior Legal Fellows
  • Reviewing case briefs, bail applications, and trial documentation
  • Identifying systemic issues affecting undertrials
  • Coordinating with legal aid lawyers and courts
  • Conducting case tracking and follow-up
  • Organising legal rights awareness initiatives
  • Assisting in programme monitoring, reviews, and planning

Position 2: Junior Legal Fellow

₹35,000 – ₹40,000 per month

Kolhapur, Maharashtra

Eligibility

Candidates applying for the role should have:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate degree in Law
  • 2–5 years of trial court experience, preferably in criminal law
  • Strong drafting, case analysis, and communication skills
  • Willingness to work in custodial settings

Responsibilities

  • Conducting prison visits
  • Preparing case briefs and bail documentation
  • Coordinating with legal aid lawyers and courts
  • Handling case tracking and follow-up
  • Conducting legal rights awareness activities
  • Working under the supervision of Senior Legal Fellows

Position 3: Administrative & MIS Officer

Salary

₹22,000 – ₹25,000 per month

Location

Kolhapur, Maharashtra

Eligibility

Candidates applying for the role should have:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate qualification
  • Experience in programme administration or MIS work
  • Proficiency in documentation, spreadsheets, and reporting tools

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining programme databases and documentation
  • Preparing and updating MIS records
  • Assisting with reporting, coordination, compliance, and audit documentation
