About the University

Integral University, located in the North-Eastern part of Lucknow, is a state private university established in 2004 and approved by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. Accredited A+ by NAAC and recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), the University offers more than 240 programs across 47 disciplines, hosting around 12,000 students on its 120-acre campus.

The Faculty of Law, established in 2016, offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs including B.A.LL.B, B.B.A.LL.B, LL.B, LLM (International Law, Criminal Law & Forensic Science), and Ph.D. programs. The Faculty equips students with knowledge and skills to excel in the dynamic field of law, achieving notable rankings nationally.

The Environmental Law Society of the Faculty of Law promotes awareness, research, and innovation in environmental governance through competitions, workshops, and seminars.

About the Competition

Theme: Innovative Legal & Policy Solutions for Environmental Challenges in India

The EnviroLegis AI Drafting Competition 2025 uniquely allows participants complete freedom to use AI tools for research and drafting. Participants may draft either a Bill or a Policy, approaching solutions from legislative or policy perspectives. They are encouraged to think critically and craft forward-looking responses combining legal knowledge, policy vision, and technological innovation.

Problem Statements

The following are aligned with current environmental and legal conditions in India. Participants are expected to draft their Bills/Policies on these themes, or on closely related sub-aspects within the Indian context. The use of AI tools for research, drafting, and innovation is recommended, provided proper discretion and originality are maintained.

  1. Climate Change & Human Health – Draft a Bill/Policy to regulate air quality in Indian metropolitan cities to reduce respiratory illnesses caused by rising air pollution.
  2. Carbon Taxation & Market-Based Environmental Regulation – Draft a Bill/Policy introducing a carbon tax in India that balances industrial growth with the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  3. E-Waste & Circular Economy – Draft a Bill/Policy mandating Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for electronic manufacturers in India to ensure safe collection and recycling of e-waste.
  4. Animal Welfare & Environmental Justice – Draft a Bill/Policy ensuring the protection of working animals (such as horses, camels, and elephants) in tourism and transport sectors, in line with recent Supreme Court judgments on animal rights.
  5. Ecocide as a Crime – Draft a Bill/Policy recognizing ecocide as a distinct crime in India, prescribing penalties, liability, and enforcement mechanisms.
  6. Sustainable Urban Development – Draft a Bill/Policy for Indian cities focusing on pollution control, expansion of green spaces, sustainable housing, and eco-friendly public transport.

Eligibility

· Open to students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programs in law, policy, governance, environmental sciences, or allied disciplines from recognized universities in India.
· Individual participation or teams of two are allowed.
