About the Course on Trade Law and Indirect Tax with CMS INDUSLAW

Trade and indirect tax law today is no longer confined to compliance and filings. It sits at the intersection of constitutional interpretation, cross-border trade strategy, customs litigation, and business advisory.

In collaboration with the team at CMS IndusLaw, SimuLegum is launching a structured, practice-oriented Certificate Course on Trade Law and Indirect Taxation, designed for law students, young professionals, and early-career lawyers who want to understand how trade and tax practice actually works inside a law firm.

  • Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992
  • Foreign Trade Policy 2023: key provisions
  • Export promotion schemes: EPCG, Advance Authorisation and RoDTEP
  • SCOMET: export controls and licensing
  • Prohibited and restricted items
  • Practical advisory on dual-use items

Session 5: Anti-Dumping, Safeguard and Countervailing Duties

  • WTO Anti-Dumping Agreement framework
  • Anti-dumping investigations: DGTR process and timelines
  • Dumping margin calculation

  • WTO dispute settlement mechanism
  • Recent WTO rulings affecting India

Session 8: Practical Advisory in Trade and Indirect Tax

  • Supply-chain structuring for tax efficiency
  • Import and export planning and duty optimisation
  • Free Trade Agreements and rules of origin
  • GST and customs interface
  • Key clauses in trade contracts
