About Basant Kumar Jaggi National Turncoat Competition, 2026

The Basant Kumar Jaggi National Turncoat Competition, 2026 is being conducted to commemorate Late Mr. Basant Kumar Jaggi, who practiced throughout his life with uprightness, farsightedness, integrity, and moral ethical values. The competition seeks to uphold these values while celebrating advocacy, adaptability, and persuasive argumentation.

Turncoat is a fast-paced speaking competition in which participants must first argue in favour of an assigned topic and, on the judges’ signal, immediately switch and argue against the same position without a break in flow.

Eligibility

• The competition is open exclusively to participants from institutions other than GL Bajaj Institute of Law.
• Students, professionals, and researchers currently affiliated with GL Bajaj Institute of Law are not eligible.
• Participants may be students of law, management, engineering/technology, medicine, or any other discipline relevant to their chosen theme.
• Suggested participants include law, management, social science, or students of any college/institution from UG and PG programmes.
• Participation is individual, and a participant may register for only one theme.

Theme

The competition will be conducted across two themes, each drawing participants from different fields of study. Each theme has an independent set of winners and prize money. Participants may register for only one theme.

Registration Fee

₹400 per participant, payable at the time of registration. Registration is confirmed only after receipt of the fee. Seats per theme are limited and allotted on a first-come-first-served basis. The registration fee is non-refundable.

Prizes

• Total prize pool across both themes: ₹44,000.
• Trophy to the top winner(s).
• Certificates to all participants.
• Each theme carries its own independent set of winners and prize money.

Participants must report at the venue at least 30 minutes before their scheduled round.
