About the Job
JPMorganChase is hiring for the position of Assistant Vice President – Legal Discovery Management / eDiscovery Operations – Senior Counsel.
Legal Discovery Management (LDM) is an internal organisation within the firm’s Litigation Department. The role will support and facilitate the legal discovery process, including the identification, preservation, collection, review, and production of information relevant to litigation matters, regulatory inquiries, and internal investigations.
Responsibilities
- Act as a point of contact for legal teams and advise and coordinate discovery activities.
- Respond to and fulfil eDiscovery requests across electronic communications, voice, structured, and unstructured data sources.
- Coordinate the discovery lifecycle among internal attorneys, outside counsel, vendors, and the internal discovery IT group.
- Conduct early matter outreach, discovery planning, budgeting, custodian scoping, tracking, status reporting, timeline management, and production requests.
- Coordinate with internal IT and business partners and external vendors to fulfil requests, including data restoration and appropriate chain-of-custody documentation where required.
- Oversee day-to-day case details for certain matter types and understand the business uses of systems from which data is requested.
- Liaise with the eDiscovery team, global systems and data centre contacts, third parties, and other relevant teams to manage legal discovery requests.
- Facilitate the flow of documents and knowledge throughout the discovery process.
- Direct documents into appropriate workstreams and transmit questions, answers, and information to managed review vendors and internal or external counsel.
- Support continuous improvement of global eDiscovery operational processes, including request processing, research, preservation, collection, disposition, delivery, and control.
- Draft and/or review process management documentation and maintain organised matter and project notes.
- Apply data-driven problem-solving and decision-making to process enhancement initiatives.
- Manage and appropriately escalate delivery impediments, risks, issues, and changes associated with process enhancement initiatives.
Eligibility
- Law graduate/J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Attorney must be licensed to practise law and be a member in good standing in the relevant state/jurisdiction, or comply with applicable in-house counsel registration rules.
- Minimum 5+ years of discovery experience with a financial services provider, consulting firm, discovery vendor, or top-tier law firm.
- Hands-on and advisory experience across the EDRM.
- Understanding of firm change management processes and procedures, including SDLC.
- Experience working in secure environments with sensitive data, including PII.
- Familiarity with ESI investigation procedures, preservation, disposition, recovery, and analysis of data from electronic communication, voice, and unstructured systems.
- Familiarity with relevant systems and platforms, including M365 Purview, MS Exchange, Connected Archive, Lotus Notes, Robocopy, OnTrack, Hard Drives, Ascent, Digital Safe, NICE, Cisco, and SharePoint.
- Familiarity with backup tape infrastructure, including ArcServe, TSM, TDP, and NetBackup.
- Experience with structured data systems, databases, EDRM, or litigation support.
- Project Management, ITIL, ACEDS, or PMP background.
- Knowledge or understanding of legal chain-of-custody requirements, regulatory processes, and basic Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Self-motivated, flexible, organised, and team-oriented.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams, confidential and sensitive information, time-critical matters, competing priorities, and projects.
- Ability to respond to shifting priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
