The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi, established in 2005 by the  Kerala State Legislature, is a premier institution known for its excellence in legal education and  research. About Altus Disputatio

Altus Disputatio, the flagship debate competition of the National University of Advanced Legal  Studies (NUALS), is a renowned platform that champions the art of debate and critical thinking.  Held annually, it draws participants from premier institutions nationwide, offering a stage for  vibrant discussions on contemporary legal, political, and social issues. What truly sets Altus  Disputatio apart is its unique Devil’s Cross format, an innovative twist that challenges  participants to go beyond traditional debating.

In this round, debaters are required to defend unconventional perspectives or adapt to surprise  scenarios, testing their adaptability, quick thinking, and depth of understanding. Combining this  distinctive feature with parliamentary-style debating, Altus Disputatio pushes boundaries,  encouraging participants to think creatively and argue persuasively. It is more than a  competition—it’s an intellectual journey that embodies NUALS’ commitment to fostering  discourse, innovation, and excellence.

Eligibility

Undergraduate students, from any recognized college/university

Registration Fees

• Registration starts at Rs. 4500 per team (16 slots available).
• 1500 per person
• Accommodations will be provided upon request.

Prizes

• ₹50K for winners
• ₹30K for runners-up
• ₹10K for Best Speaker
• ₹10K for Best Inquisitor

Important Dates

• Registration Opens: 1st February 2026
• Registration Closes: 25th February 2026 (11.59 PM)
• Event : 13th – 15th March 2026
