About the Event
The 11th Online Essay Writing Competition, themed “Deepfakes and Article 19: Can ‘Reasonable Restrictions’ Keep Pace with AI-Generated Misinformation?”, invites participants to reflect on the evolving relevance of India’s constitutional framework in addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence. The event aims to encourage students to develop their legal research, critical thinking, and academic writing skills while engaging with contemporary legal issues.
It explores whether the existing grounds of reasonable restrictions under Article 19(2) are sufficient to address the challenges posed by deepfakes, or whether new legal and regulatory approaches are required, and encourages participants to critically examine the constitutional limits of online expression, the accountability of digital platforms, and the role of law in ensuring that technological progress does not undermine individual rights, public trust, and democratic values.
