About the Organisation

The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, was established under Act No. 41 of 1997 of the State Legislature of Madhya Pradesh. The University promotes legal education, research and critical engagement with various areas of law.

NLIU publishes several law journals, including the Indian Arbitration Law Review, Indian Law Review, NLIU Journal of Intellectual Property Law, NLIU Journal of Business Laws and NLIU Law Review.

About the Journal

The Indian Arbitration Law Review is an annual, double-blind peer-reviewed journal devoted exclusively to arbitration law. It was founded by Mr Prashant Mishra, an alumnus of NLIU from the Batch of 2005 and a legal practitioner based in Delhi.

The Journal is published by Eastern Book Company (EBC) and is indexed on SCC Online and HeinOnline. It publishes long articles, short articles, case comments and book reviews concerning the law and practice of arbitration.

About the Call for Papers

The Journal invites scholarly, original and unpublished written works for publication in Volume IX. Submissions should engage with contemporary issues in arbitration law and contribute to existing legal scholarship through research, critical analysis and original arguments.

The Journal welcomes submissions from law students, academicians and practitioners. Manuscripts must be written in English and must comply with the prescribed submission and formatting guidelines.

Eligibility

  • Law students at the undergraduate or postgraduate level, academicians and legal practitioners may submit manuscripts.
  • Submissions must relate to arbitration law.
  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished and written in English.
  • Submissions must not be under consideration by another publication simultaneously.
  • Co-authorship is permitted, with no specified limit on the number of authors.
  • Manuscripts must comply with the Journal’s submission and formatting requirements.

Themes and Sub-Themes

The Journal invites submissions on the following sub-themes:

  1. Arbitrability of Class Action Suits under Section 245 of the Companies Act, 2013: A Critical Analysis in Light of the Jindal Poly Films Reference to Arbitration.
  2. Mandatory Arbitration Clauses in Public Company Disclosures: Should SEBI Follow the SEC’s Policy Shift Permitting Arbitration Clauses in Registration Statements?
  3. Relief under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, Post-Award: Availability of Relief to Unsuccessful Parties and a Comparative Analysis of Its Scope Across Major Arbitral Jurisdictions.

  8. Section 9 vis-à-vis Emergency Arbitration: Recasting the Interim Relief Architecture after the Commercial Courts Amendment, 2026.
  9. The Indus Waters Treaty Arbitration: Treaty Interpretation, Jurisdictional Challenges and Its Implications for International Dispute Resolution.
  10. Use of AI in Blockchain-Based Arbitrations: Addressing Challenges of Accountability, Due Process and Enforcement.

Submissions on other relevant topics concerning arbitration law may also be considered, subject to the Journal’s scope and submission requirements.

Categories for Submission

Submissions may be made under the following categories:

  • Long Articles: 4,000–8,000 words. These should provide a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of a contemporary issue in arbitration law, supported by a range of sources and contributions in the form of alternatives and suggestions.
  • Short Articles: 2,000–4,000 words. These should analyse a contemporary issue in arbitration law, refer to relevant sources and offer alternatives or suggestions.
  • Case Comments: 1,500–4,000 words. These should analyse a recent judgment, explain its relevance to the development of arbitration law, discuss the views expressed in the judgment and present the author’s opinion.
  • Book Reviews: 1,000–3,000 words. These should provide a concise account of a recently published book on arbitration, including the issues explored and the author’s arguments.

The prescribed word limits exclude footnotes and abstracts. The Editorial Board may relax the word limit by up to 10%, at its discretion.

Formatting Guidelines

Authors must adhere to the following formatting requirements:

  • The manuscript must be prepared in Microsoft Word format.
  • The main text must use Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5-line spacing.
  • Footnotes must use Times New Roman, font size 10, with single-line spacing.
  • Citations must follow the OSCOLA (5th Edition) style specified in the Call for Papers.
  • Footnotes must be used as the sole method of citation. Other citation methods are not permitted.
  • Substantive footnotes are permitted.
  • The manuscript must not contain references to the identity of the author or authors. Authors may cite their previously published work.

Submission Guidelines

Authors must comply with the following requirements:

  • Submissions must be original and unpublished and must not be under consideration by another publication simultaneously.
  • All submissions must be written in English.
  • Long Articles and Short Articles must be accompanied by an abstract not exceeding 300 words.
  • The abstract must clearly explain the novelty and usefulness of the proposed idea and identify the manuscript’s specific contribution beyond the existing literature.
  • Case Comments and Book Reviews do not require abstracts.
  • Co-authorship is permitted, with no cap on the number of authors.
  • Submissions must undergo a plagiarism check before proceeding to content evaluation.
  • Authors must ensure that their manuscripts do not infringe third-party rights and do not contain obscene, offensive, defamatory or racially prejudiced material.

Parameters for Evaluation

Manuscripts will proceed to content evaluation only after clearing a strict plagiarism check. The Journal evaluates submissions on the following parameters:

  • Grammar and Language: Quality of academic writing, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and clarity of expression.
  • Structure and Logical Coherence: Consistency of the argument, systematic presentation of assertions and logical and legal coherence.
  • Contribution to Existing Literature: The originality of the manuscript and its contribution to the broader discussion on arbitration law.
  • Contemporary Relevance and Context: The relevance of the subject to current legal or socio-economic developments and the inclusion of a distinctive perspective.
  • Referencing and Research: The quality of the authorities relied upon, with preference for academic sources such as books, journals, treaties and case law. Both excessive citation and insufficient referencing should be avoided.

Merely citing precedents without offering meaningful analysis or an original contribution will not be sufficient.

Copyright Policy

Authors agree to grant the Indian Arbitration Law Review the necessary rights to produce, distribute and publish their manuscripts through offline or online media.

Submission Deadline

The deadline for submissions is 15 November 2026, at 11:59 PM.

The Journal accepts manuscripts on a rolling basis. Manuscripts received after the deadline will be considered for publication in Volume X.
