Meme Society NLU was started because of the 4 founders’ passion of making memes and it was majorly a hobby-based initiative. The Team used memes to show the concerns of the students to the other students and did get great response and support for that. MSNLU till now has covered almost 7-8 colleges protests starting from HNLU protest which was a huge success and students got all their demand fulfilled.

Please tell us about Meme Society NLU.
MSNLU was started on 4th August, 2018 and it is already 2 years old with almost 20K followers on Instagram, 15.1K likes on Facebook, 2 Whatsapp Groups for Judiciary (comprising of 450+ people) and one general group for the memers. Apart from this we also have a special page ‘MemeCLAT’ for the CLAT Aspirants with almost 2400 followers.
Our present team is a team of 5 Admins (Durgesh, Siddharth, Akshat, Kaushal, Aditya) and four Editors (Divyansh, Sarvagya, Faraz, Aadi).
So, to be frank MSNLU was started because of the 4 founders’ passion of making memes and it was majorly a hobby-based initiative. There were hardly any culture of making law memes by the time we started, the only page that was at that time was Deadly Law. We were in the starting making college campus based memes only but slowly we expanded our area by making general law memes so that everyone can relate with it. MSNLU was first started on Facebook then after almost 6 months we shifted to Instagram and we go good response here. The reason we kept the name Meme Society NLU was to organize all the NLU students at one place and we have now achieved that by almost all NLUs following our page.
Apart from making memes MSNLU from the very starting was active in supporting the law students’ concern in NLUs and other colleges which was not there previously. We used memes to show the concerns of the students to the other students and we did get great response and support for that. MSNLU till now has covered almost 7-8 colleges protests starting from HNLU protest which was a huge success and students got all their demand fulfilled. Now also we raise issues of students of law colleges on our page. After launch of our new page ‘MemeCLAT’, we started helping Law Aspirants both mentally and academically. We regularly receive lot of doubts from aspirants which we make sure we answer and clear their doubts.
Purpose of MSNLU is to create a culture of happiness, support those who need support and guide those who need guidance. And we will continue to stick to these goals in our future too.
What prompted you to start Meme Society NLU? How did you guys start Meme Society NLU? Considering its something different, what challenges do you faced?
MSNLU from its very beginning has been very special to its entire team especially the founders. A page started by 4 Law Students (Durgesh Shukla, Ujjwal Singh, Siddharth Singh, Ujjwal Sharma), all students of National Law University, Odisha, went on to become what today is known almost to the entire law students fraternity.
This was to be frank, the brainchild of a few meme lovers who always had something funny and sarcastic in mind about whatever was happening in campus (never offensive though), not to forget that the meme culture on social media had already developed by then and there were also a few laws related pages (with little or no reach).
One of the best things that the founders got right was that they never thought of confining the content to their campus related stuff but went ahead and voiced the opinions on whatever happened in the world of law (ofcourse, relevant to students at the same time).
But then with time we grew, enthusiastic and very talented people joined, a few also left and eventually we became TEAM MSNLU, which now comprise of 4 Founders, 5 Admins (including 2 founders), 4 Editors. In this journey we did face challenges, mind you the team and the content that we put has never had any sort of ill will, malafide intentions or anything of such sort, we always make sure that the content does not hurt anyone and at the same the voice of law students and their plight reaches the mass.
Biggest challenge we faced is that we were new, had no social media experience, nobody had any idea as to how to increase the reach and get people to know about our venture but as fate would have it, we grew and are still going strong.
Please tell our readers when did you start Meme Society NLU. What’s the main idea behind Meme Society NLU?
As mentioned earlier, MSNLU was started on 4th August, 2018. As the other things about MSNLU are already mentioned, we would like to tell our readers about the main idea behind the MSNLU. So, the main idea behind this page was of “Of the law student, by the law student, for the law student”. In this time span of two years, we have always tried to epitomise this idea. From the protest of HNLU to the postponement of CLAT 2020 amidst corona virus pandemic, we have stood together with law students and law aspirants. Amidst the unprecedented and rather depressing time of lockdown, we also started a campaign named “Let’s Talk” for the students where we talked to students as well as aspirants and tried to solve their problem. We also started a series of post named “Subah ki pehli post positive” where we share a motivational quote / post / video. At the time of notification of NLAT, we also came together with NLSIU students and helped students arranging laptops. The main idea of it is to impart a positivity among our followers. To sum up, the main idea of this page is, apart from memes and making people smile, to work for just and noble cause; be it a protest, or any other thing.
This is the main idea of MSNLU: to make law community an amalgamation of all the values and people and to make it better place with positivity.
