About the Call for Blogs
The Society of International Law and Policy (SILP), NUJS, Kolkata, invites original and engaging submissions for a Special Edition of the SILP Blog commemorating 80 years of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The Special Edition seeks to encourage critical perspectives on the ICJ’s jurisprudence, evolving role, contemporary challenges, contribution to the development of international law, and future within a changing international legal order.
Contributors are encouraged to move beyond descriptive accounts and critically engage with contemporary questions concerning the Court and its place within the international legal system.

Eligibility
The Call is open to students, researchers, academicians, legal practitioners, policy professionals, and others interested in international law and the work of the International Court of Justice.
Theme
- Commemorating 80 Years of the International Court of Justice: The Court’s Role in Contemporary International Law Amidst a Changing World Order and Its Future
- The Special Edition seeks to examine the role and relevance of the ICJ after eight decades of international adjudication, particularly in light of contemporary developments and a changing international order.
- Possible areas of engagement include the Court’s evolving jurisprudence, contribution to the development of international law, jurisdiction and admissibility, advisory opinions, State responsibility, use of force, human rights and humanitarian concerns, environmental disputes, compliance with judgments, legitimacy and effectiveness of international adjudication, and the future of the Court.
- These areas are illustrative and not exhaustive. Submissions addressing other contemporary issues that meaningfully engage with the broader theme are welcome.

- Long Articles & Discussions | Word Limit: 2000–2500 words
- Short Articles | Word Limit: 1000–1500 words
Formatting Guidelines
- Submissions should be written in clear and accessible language.
- References must be provided through hyperlinks within the text.
- Relevant judgments, treaties, official documents, academic sources, and other authorities should be appropriately linked.
Submission Guidelines
- Submissions must be original and unpublished.
- Contributions should meaningfully engage with the International Court of Justice, its jurisprudence, contemporary international law, or issues arising from the broader theme.
- Contributors are encouraged to present a clear argument and substantive analysis.
- References must be provided through hyperlinks within the text.
