About the Job

Amgen is hiring a Senior Associate – Paralegal, Patent Operations to provide paralegal support to the Patent Law group. The role involves managing and maintaining patent prosecution dockets for U.S. and foreign patent portfolios and supporting patent prosecution operations.

Eligibility

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
• 5–9 years of IP docketing experience.

Responsibilities

• Review and docket patent prosecution correspondence from U.S. and foreign patent offices.
• Send filing instructions to outside associates and maintain follow-up correspondence.
• Ensure completion of country-specific formalities.
• Manage patent dockets and determine and docket critical dates for U.S. and foreign patent offices.
• Prepare reports through IP Management Software (Anaqua).
• Support Patent Department staff regarding U.S. and foreign patent law rules and regulations.
• Make presentations at patent staff meetings.
• Research country law requirements using online resources such as Kluwer IP.
• Coordinate international filings through the PCT, national phase entry, direct Paris Convention filings, and EP validations.
• Manage payment of annuities.
• Review documentation before submission to U.S. and foreign Patent Offices.
• Review formality documents, including Assignments, Declarations, Powers of Attorney, and Statements of Use.
• Coordinate invention disclosure processing and review.
• Create, maintain, and audit database records in Anaqua.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate/baccalaureate degree or completion of an ABA-approved legal assistant/paralegal program.
• 4+ years of intellectual property experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sector.
• Experience in U.S. and foreign patent prosecution.
• Proficiency with the Anaqua docketing system.
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems.
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
