About Surendranath Law College

Surendranath Law College is regarded as one of the oldest Law colleges in British India. It was founded by a great patriot, political leader, orator, teacher, educationalist, and journalist Surendranath Banerjee, and got affiliated to Calcutta University in 1885 as an independent professional college. The alumni column includes Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, Harendra Kumar Mukherjee, the first Governor of West Bengal, Justice Bijan Kumar Mukherjee, the first Bengali Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

About Rajendra Prasad Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2025

One of the oldest law colleges of British India, Surendranath Law College is thrilled to announce the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Moot Court Competition, set for 2025. One of the oldest law colleges in British India. The competition aims to provide a simulated platform for learning and representing the skills of budding new lawyers. Recognizing the value of mooting in evaluating students’ skills in advocacy, research, and drafting, the College continues to provide a platform to identify legal talent, equipping them to meet the evolving demands of the legal profession.

Theme

The Moot Proposition is based on Criminal and Penal laws

Eligibility

The competition is open to an integrated 5-year LL.B. program or a 3-year LL.B. program from a recognized university/institution approved by the Bar Council of India. Each college has to send one team from their college, on special request it may extend up to two teams.

Prizes

  • Certificate of participation shall be provided to all the participants
  • Cash prize- ₹10,000 trophy & certificate of achievement to the winning Team,
  •  Cash prize- ₹5,000 trophy & certificate of achievement to the Runner’s Up team.
  •  Cash prize- ₹2,500 each to each team which qualifies for the Semi-finals

Medals and certificates of achievement shall be awarded to the-

  • Best Researcher;
  • Team with the Best Memorial;
  • Best Speaker;
