About Hidayatullah National Law University

Hidayatullah National Law University is a public law school and a National Law University located in New Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. It was named after the former Chief Justice of India, Mohammad Hidayatullah. It is one of the autonomous law schools in India and the seventh in a series of such national law schools.

About the Competition

The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Metaverse has redefined innovation, creativity, and the consumption of intellectual property (IP). These advancements present unprecedented challenges and opportunities in the domain of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). From copyright issues in AI-generated content to trademark disputes in the virtual world, the interplay between evolving technologies and the existing legal frameworks necessitates a deeper exploration.

This competition aims to provide a platform for students and research scholars to critically analyze, deliberate, and propose innovative solutions to the challenges that AI and the Metaverse pose to the IPR regime. Through this initiative, we hope to inspire critical thinking and foster academic discourse on navigating the complexities of IPR in the face of rapid technological transformation.

About the Competition

Hidayatullah National Law University under the aegis of the DPIIT-IPR Chair, and in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation and IP Laws, proudly announces the National IPR Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Navigating IPR Challenges in the Era of AI & Metaverse.”

Theme

Essays must strictly adhere to the theme, “Navigating IPR Challenges in the Era of AI and Metaverse.”

Eligibility

The competition is open only to:

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students from any recognized institution in India.
  • Ph.D. research scholars from any recognized institution in India.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Relevance to the theme
  • Originality and depth of analysis
  • Clarity of expression
  • Quality of research and referencing
  • Practicality and innovation in solutions proposed

The entries will be judged by a panel of eminent academicians, legal professionals, and IP experts.

Awards and Publication

  • First Prize: ₹20,000 + Certificate of Achievement
  • Second Prize: ₹10,000 + Certificate of Achievement
  • Third Prize: ₹5,000 + Certificate of Achievement

All participants will also be awarded e-certificates of participation.

  • The competition will receive a limited number of entries.
  • Selected Essays will be published in the form of a book.

Essay Submission Guidelines

  • Language: Submissions must be in English.
  • Word Limit: 3000–5000 words (excluding footnotes).
  • Formatting:
    • Font: Times New Roman, Size 12.
    • Line Spacing: 1.5.
    • Footnotes: Times New Roman, Size 10, single spacing (20th Edition Bluebook citation style).
  • Originality: The essay must be original and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Plagiarism beyond 10% will result in disqualification. AI-generated content will be subject to strict scrutiny and may lead to rejection.
  • Co-authorship: A maximum of two authors is permitted.
